Reforms in information & Public Relations Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR: The Information Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has planned several reforms to make the government machinery more responsive 1(eeping in view the significance digital age.

Talking to a delegation of the Press Information Department (PID), Islamabad, at the Civil Secretariat here, KP Information and Public Relations Secretary Mohammad Abid Majeed said that the department was introducing numerous reforms keeping in mind the requirements of the digital age.

According to a handout issued here the other day, Mr Majeed said that the Automated Information and Reporting System was beingset up at the directorate of information with the assistance of Governance Support Programme (GSP).

He said that it would not only help the department to effectively portray the policies, programmes and reforms undertaken by the provincial government through media, but also contribute to generating instant response on key events and issues through the government functionaries concerned.

This new approach, the secretary said, was basically a strategic two-way communication which would make the government machinery more responsive and ultimately help in removing communication gap between the government and citizens, promoting good governance, eradicating social evils and addressing public grievances.The secretary briefed the delegation about various functions performed by the KP information department with regard to issuance of advertisements and publicity of the reforms initiatives, ministers and other government functionaries besides maintaining media relations and regulatory functions of the department under the law.

The delegation comprised Information Services Academy (ISA) director Ashig Hussain and deputy director Omar Khan; PID deputy director Shahid Ranjha, information officer Aqdas Shaukat and other officers of the two departments. They evinced keen interest in the reforms being introduced in the department.

Director information Shuaibuddin and other senior officers of the information department were also present on the occasion.
